Hi there! Allow me to get straight to the point: At 31, months after having my third baby, I was still very far from feeling like my old self. Feeling very depleted and being unhappy with the way I looked and felt was taking its toll. I was also concerned about intense spring hay fever allergies I had a couple of years before and intuitively felt out of balance hormonally. I thought, “If this is how I feel at 31, how will I feel at 40, 50 and beyond?” I had to do something. That’s when I decided to do some research into my old love of all things healthy, fruits and veggies in particular.

I discovered the idea of incorporating a high percentage fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, herbs, nuts, seeds and sprouts into my diet. I was fascinated by the theory that explained that these simple foods have the power to clean, detoxify and regenerate the body or in other words, make you look and feel great! So in Spring 2002, after many months of research, I decided to take the plunge. I ate fruit salads and fruit smoothies for breakfast, substantial salads for lunch, whole grains and more raw vegetable dishes for dinner, along with plenty of water and herbal teas throughout the day. I ate as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted.

By end of July I had gone from a size 8 to a size 2 (I didn’t weigh myself) and had such bountiful energy that I did not need to nap midday and was automatically waking up around 6:30am (despite getting up once or twice during the night for my baby). I felt like a brand new person! But something else happened, totally unexpected, that really stunned and surprised me and changed my entire perspective on health and healing.

Since age 22 I had been struggling with adult acne on my face and back. My skin was pasty and greasy and I always wore cover up and powder to try and hide it all. Yet after those eight weeks my skin and complexion did not only clear up, it was smoother than it had ever been and had an actual glow to it.

Over the years I had been to 7 dermatologists in both the US and Israel and spent hundreds of dollars on doctor visits, creams, pills and cortisone shots (for my scars) and yet nothing actually improved long term. I would always ask my doctors, “Why do I have this condition?” “Is there anything I can do to improve my condition?” “Is my condition related to my diet?” And the answers I was getting were always along the lines of, “We don’t know why some people develop cystic acne, it is not diet-related, and there really isn’t much you can do about it, however this prescription cream seems to have helped a lot of people in your situation…”

What I learned later was that I had unknowingly rid myself during those eight weeks of the two main causes of this condition, which had been part of my diet for a very long time. Aside from being predisposed to this condition (my mother had long-term acne and I’ve always had very sensitive skin), I had been eating lots of refined carbohydrates which were causing my insulin levels to rise as well as lots of dairy products that contain both natural and unnatural hormones, which created a hormonal imbalance and caused my oil glands to “turn on”.

I was shocked that not one of the doctors that I had encountered knew to tell me this. How is it that the simple fact that acne and nutrition are related eludes the medical community? I thought, “What are other people suffering from that could also be healed through cleaning up the diet?” Apparently a lot, as I have found out.

This paradigm shift, my own improved health, and the excitement of feeling so light and energized prompted me to stay on this path. 11 years later I’m happy to report that my adult acne never returned, I’ve maintained my pre-pregnancy weight despite six pregnancies (and a definite tendency to gain weight), and have eliminated other health issues such as irregular menstruation, unwanted hair and improved allergies.

Years of regularly eating mostly living foods along with adhering to other natural principles of health have made me feel… well, more alive, is the best way I can put it. It has also proved to drastically enhance my health, including how I feel and look, and I have seen it work for countless others. Nothing beats actually healing the root cause of the problem. That’s been my experience and I hope it helps you to choose living and eating in a way that is more closely aligned with the natural principles of health. Do not take my word for it.
